BIRDS AND ALLERGIES

When a person has an allergy, it means that his or her body is reacting to something in the environment. The reactions can include itchy or watery eyes, sneezing, coughing, or itchy skin. Serious allergic reactions may cause
breathing problems and can send a person to the hospital for treatment. Some people are allergic to the dust that is produced by bird feathers. If someone in your house is allergic to the dust or fur and skin of certain pets—like cats or dogs—it is possible that feather dust will also produce an allergic reaction. Before bringing a pet bird into your life, you should make sure that no one in your family will be allergic to it. The safest way to find out if you are allergic to birds and feathers is to talk to your family doctor who may perform certain tests.
